Radiological assistant

 

The Bachelor study takes three years and upon graduating from it, the graduates get the authorization to perform health-care job with the consent of the Czech Ministry of Health.

The lessons take place in attendance and combined form. The goal is to prepare health care workers with a university qualification, authorized to perform radiological display and radiation procedures and application of ionizing radiation in procedures used in medical radiation.

The graduates from the study discipline will acquire knowledge from mathematical-physical, medical, social scientific and other related disciplines that will allow them quick professional adaptation to changed conditions and demands of practice. The compatibility of the study program with similar study programs of EU universities, verified within cooperation of European universities in the Socrates/Erasmus Project will allow the graduates from this study program free movement and employment on the European job market.

The students have the opportunity to pass a three-month professional study stay at workplaces of partner universities. The acquisition of theoretical and practical pieces of knowledge, habits and experience will allow the graduate to recognize and respond to biological and psycho-social needs of the patients to whom he or she provides professional services, to know the principles and technique of nursing care in radiological procedures and to be able to provide it to the patients within the required scope. The graduate uses the means of medical technology, tools and equipment in order to provide the patient with safety and the highest possible comfort. The graduate is able to recognize whether there is all necessary information available to perform radiological displaying and radiation procedures and whether it is correct. The graduate is practically and theoretically familiarized with radiological procedures, including the procedures used for medical radiation. The graduate is able, observing all ethical requirements, to inform the patient in qualified manner about the performed intervention, about the risks related to medical radiation and about the procedures to reduce them. With regard to the acquired knowledge, the graduate is able to:

  • perform radiographic examinations in radiodiagnostic departments of ward and outpatient health care facilities, including work in operating theatres and at the patient’s bed, assistance and instrumentation for angiological, diapeutic and intervention methods, perform examinations with the help of computer tomography and magnetic resonance;
  • perform radiation at X-ray radiators and linear accelerators and devices intended for brachytherapy in radiotherapeutic departments, work with simulators and perform calculations of radiation plans, make radiation devices, perform dosimetric measurements for in vivo dosimetry
  • perform displaying and non-displaying methods in nuclear medicine, including whole-body and tomographic examinations and their subsequent processing at computer systems.
 

If an applicant without qualification for performance of health-care job of Radiological assistant without professional supervision applies for combined form of study of the discipline of Radiological assistant and is admitted to study after having successfully passed the entrance examination, the applicant will have to pass practical lessons in an extent of 1 200 hours during the study in order to acquire professional qualification.
