The faculty celebrated the quarter–century anniversary of its foundation
The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia commemorated a quarter-century of its existence with a gala meeting held on Tuesday, October 25. The programme was moderated by the Vice- Dean for Academic Affairs, Mag. Ondřej Doskočil, Th.D. ”The twenty fifth anniversary of the foundation of the faculty should be not only an opportunity for the presentation of achieved success, but above all for the remembrance of the ideals which are the basis of the faculty and which maintain the faculty – the ideals of liberty, humanity and human solidarity,” he said in the introduction.
He passed the floor to the Dean of the Faculty prof. PhDr. Valérie Tóthová, Ph.D. who remembered some key moments of the development of the faculty. She also summarized recent events and outlined future development,wishing the faculty successful years in its pedagogic, research and publication activities. ”I wish the faculty further development and stabilization of its already built up position. I extend my wishes to our faculty students who appreciate studying at this faculty, and graduates who will proudly declare their support for the faculty. I also wish the faculty good, enthusiastic and creative educators who want to join their fate with the faculty with their body and soul, they will faithfully educate students and prepare their successors. Future colleagues, will responsibly try to develop their research branch and represent the faculty internally and externally with honour, not only from the scientific - pedagogical aspect,”" she said.
The Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, doc. Tomáš Machula, Ph.D., Th.D., remembered that the anniversary of the faculty is a part of the celebration of the anniversary of the whole university, which belongs to the first 5 universities founded in the Czech Republic after 1989. Considering the forthcoming holidays, 28th October and 17th November, he was thinking about the term knowledge. In his opinion, it is related to freedom that is a gate to knowledge - and knowledge is a condition of freedom. ”Knowledge and freedom are connected. I wish that the faculty’s development and the development of the University of South Bohemia also mean the development of freedom. Human and academic freedom shall also further maintain the development of the faculty as much as possible,” he said.
Thereafter the previous Dean, prof. MUDr. Miloš Velemínský, CSc., dr. h. c., and the first Dean of the Faculty, doc. PhDr. Jana Šemberová took the floor. Prof. RNDr. Libor Grubhoffer, CSc., then spoke about the role and mission of a university in modern society and prof. PhDr. Jiří Mareš, CSc., dealt with the topic “Relations between health and social aspects of provided care”. The Vice-Dean, Doskočil, then introduced an almanac issued for the 25th anniversary of the faculty, of which 500 copies were published.. He pointed out that it is not a comprehensive summary book of the achieved results but a mosaic of crocks of different types. It is mostly based on subjective statements, memories or for example students´ notes from foreign exchange stays, responses from clinic workplaces and from the public. The Dean then appraised with graphic sheets 25 personalities who significantly contributed or contribute to the development of the faculty over the years. Then followed a baptism of the book “The Golden Path” that arose during the education of the University of the 3rd Age. The celebration was finished with a show by the choir of the faculty.
