Children and parents alike were full of praise for the Children's University Summer Day Camp
The Children's University Summer Day Camp, organized by the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia following the great success in previous years, challenged children with a lot of different experiences. The camp took place from Monday 12 to Friday 16 July 2021 and was attended by fifteen children aged from six to thirteen, mostly from the region of České Budějovice, but also from further afield. They learned about the basics of helping professions in a playful and entertaining way - the main topics were human care, first aid and civil protection. The participants spent the first three days under the guidance of teachers, students and graduates of FHSS USB in the building of FHSS USB in 26 U Výstaviště street, where they discussed the basics of health care professions, care for disabled people, and communication with people with different types of disabilities. On Wednesday and Thursday, an action programme was organized at Hradce Training Base near České Budějovice.
The day camp was held in compliance with all currently valid anti-epidemic measures related to the covid-19 disease. The children underwent antigen tests on Monday morning, wore respirators or masks in larger groups, and the organizers ensured sufficient spacing and other rules. Not even the changeable weather spoiled the event: the children managed the courage trail and the hike up Kluk mountain, during which they performed tasks related mainly to first aid. Also Friday on the campus of the University of South Bohemia was very attractive. The children learned how to deal with a radiation accident, tried the basics of decontamination, the use of protective suits, etc., all in an interactive way. The participation of firefighters was an enrichment, as well as the cooperation with a student of the Jírovcova grammar school, Nela Preisová, who explained how to work with a microscope. She even brought two of them from her school which ZSF JU cooperates with on the Junior University.
