The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (FHSS) has a privileged position in the Czech Republic, particularly due to the interconnection of health care and social topics – aimed at helping the graduates to understand and apply the holistic approach to the whole person and thus ensure they are able to help both the body and the soul. The harmonic interconnection of both of the above offers opportunities to train professionals who can carry out their work as a mission. This aspect constitutes the great advantage of the Faculty in the modern world – the work of the educated people will always be needed.

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is an educational institution that is profoundly focused in the field of health and social care. Its specific creative activity shows in the area of application, project and direct clinical and field work with clients who have a health and social disadvantage. It develops scientific and research activities and international cooperation with major institutions and specialists’ workplaces.

In the long term, it is characterized by the continuing demand of applicants for study, local placement in the field of favourable cross-border cooperation with educational institutions, a very good network of international partner organizations and cooperation within humanitarian and development aid, habilitation and appointment rights, or the use of modern means of education.

It prepares professionals for the requisite occupations. Due to the study field the students choose to study the students and graduates of FHSS often find themselves in situations or events that make for a variety of unfavourable health and social problems for man. Not only can such educated professionals help those in need immediately, they can also advise what to do to improve the client’s life. They continue on this journey from the beginning until the end: they assist at the very birth of life of a person and they watch over them throughout a person’s life as rescuers, helping the ill, old, disabled and socially weak. They give them the power to return to a fully-fledged life – and they are a support to those who are at the end of their life path. Their hands rescue, comfort, and are able to support persons in difficult situations.

The combination of skills taught at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is extensive. Teaching is closely related to practice; therefore the graduates have many opportunities to find employment. They are able to help people not only with improving their health condition, but also with their inclusion into society or helping them to find solutions to adverse social situations. Practical training is a significant part of the educational process.

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is one of the few universities that can justify its chosen motto: We teach people to helpThanks to this, the faculty trains students for work that can become a mission. A challenging mission, but a mission that allows for the individual to lead a fully-fledged life.
