Institute of Laboratory Diagnostics and Public Health

The Institute of Laboratory Diagnostics and Public Health brings together workplaces and experts who are involved in the development of scientific work and teaching in the area of laboratory examination methods, public and social health service, and nutrition therapy and information systems in health service. It guarantees and provides lessons in the bachelor’s degree course of Medical laboratory technician (full-time and part-time), as well as in the course of Public health protection and Nutrition therapist. It also offers teaching in the master's degree course of Professional worker in public health protection.

The importance of these disciplines is constantly increasing. This is due to the changes in society, the lifestyle, eating, working conditions, leisure time and the new knowledge and methods offered by these disciplines. A great advantage of the Institute is the number of teaching laboratories and its close connection with practice. Thanks to the new potential of laboratory diagnostics, the laboratory examination becomes an integral part of the determining of a reliable diagnosis and therefore, the employers are highly interested in graduates of the study course of Medical laboratory technician.

Protection and promotion of public health is a sum of activities and measures for the creation and protection of healthy living and working conditions and preventing the spread of infectious and large-scale diseases, work-related health hazards and work-related diseases and other serious health disorders. This supports the great importance of the work of the graduates from the study course of Public health protection (and from the master's degree course), and at the same time the emphasis on their good preparation. The study course of Nutrition therapist also ranks among the disciplines whose work and results are reflected in the health condition of individuals and the population. Graduates from this course will have all the prerequisites to competently apply the scientific knowledge about nutrition in practice.
