Institute of Humanities in Helping Professions
The Institute of Humanities in Helping Professions provides the teaching of humanities subjects that are part of the accredited study programs at all levels of studies – from bachelor’s degree to doctoral degree. The activities of the Institute are based on the premise that general humanities are an indispensable part of the education of healthcare, social and health, and social care workers, as it develops the students’ horizons in the humanities and social science, which contributes to a complex view of the studied course. Although the Institute does not immediately guarantee any study programme, it ensures the study programmes conducted at the faculty with teaching the lessons of philosophy, ethics, law, legislation, economics, management, psychology, and professionally-oriented foreign languages – English, German, Spanish and Latin. Due to the specifics of the subjects taught, the Institute is divided into four sections: applied languages, philosophy and ethics, law, management and economics, and psychology.
In addition to the compulsory subjects, the Institute offers optional subjects, such as Bioethics, Psychosomatics, or the Philosophical foundations of the helping professions. It also provides language courses beyond the compulsory courses.
The Institute puts great emphasis on the interconnection of theory and practice, so there are many experts from practice working there. According to the professional orientation of the individual teachers, the Institute cooperates with similarly oriented workplaces in the Czech Republic and abroad, e.g. with the international organization EACME (European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics), members of the Institute are also represented in various professionally-oriented committees, boards, and associations. The results of the scientific and research activities are used by the academic staff both in teaching the students and in publishing in scientific journals and monographs. Members of the Institute participate in foreign teaching mobilities and traineeships, international conferences, and workshops – they also organize conferences and workshops with international participation.
